![]() ![]() ![]() The people of Winesburg are emotionally wounded, beset by shame or regret, and include a former schoolteacher once accused of fondling young boys a pastor who likes to hide in the darkness and watch his neighbor undress a clerk who, after being jilted by her lover, runs naked through the streets. Most of the characters in these 22 tales feel so trapped and alienated that Anderson coined a term for them: "grotesques." In fact, he wanted to call his linked collection "The Book of the Grotesque," but his publisher overruled him. If you haven't read "Winesburg, Ohio," published in 1919, the title alone might give you the impression that it's a quaint story about the charms of small town life at the turn of the century. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The road from the station is paved with cute tiles with a cat on it to show the way. The museum is located about 10 minutes away from Waseda station. Being lead by a little human interest, I visited the museum on a sunny Saturday afternoon in June. I first read Kokoro (1914) in Japanese class and later went on to read “I am a cat” (1905) and other works. This museum goes a bit further, by building a reconstruction of Sōseki’s living room, full of books and other memorabilia. Literature is not a very visual experience, but stories can always be told through panels on a wall. Sōseki lived at this location during the last 9 years of his life. To commemorate the 150th anniversary of his birth, a new museum popped up in Waseda in 2017. Natsume Sōseki (1867-1916 夏目 漱石), one of the founders of modern Japanese literature, was born and raised in Tokyo. ![]() ![]() ![]() She attends writer's conferences whenever she can to learn new writing techniques and network with writers, agents and publicists. This cover screams SEXY and is perfect for Travis’s story to be wrapped up in. I was willing to overlook the lack of backbone this time around though since we knew this would be about Travis.Ĭan I also mention that cover? The previous book had a ho-hum cover that really didn’t capture my interest. What we get to read about though is how Travis is struggling about how he doesn’t feel good enough to be with Abby. On the outside he is the man every girl wants. We also get to read about how insecure Travis really is deep down. I won’t excuse his behavior with that last line, but it does give us insight on how he was shaped into the man he is now. The only difference is now we get pieces of his past that help us to understand why he is so possessive. Now do I still feel the same way after finishing it from Travis’s POV? Well, I still consider Travis a beautiful disaster. Instead of rehashing all of my feelings from the first book, I will just let you read my previous review found HERE. I thought Travis was a man who abused Abby mentally and verbally. I admit that the first book was not a favorite of mine. This book is almost a mirror image of Beautiful Disaster except it is from the point of view of Travis. Walking Disaster is the second book in the Beautiful series by author Jamie McGuire. ![]() ![]() ![]() There’s something about this island that feels deeply off, a feeling that’s affirmed for her by the resort employee who originally discovered the woman’s body: CCTV shows that it was likely accidental, but the more Elin investigates, the less sure she is that it wasn’t murder.
